MicroFish is a statistical software application used by fisheries professionals for generating fisheries abundance analytics. It generates population estimates and length/weight metrics.

MicroFish software has been used by fisheries biologists for 33 years. It is now being used in 65 countries. MicroFish was written by Jack Van Deventer to assist fisheries experts in their research.

  • MicroFish 3.0 is commonly used for generating analytical results from electrofishing data (removal-depletion sampling).

  • MicroFish software is Windows-based and compatible with Windows 10.

  • There are no versions available for smartphones or for Apple products.

  1. Maximum-likelihood (MLE) population estimates

  2. Confidence intervals on MLE population estimates

  3. Catchability (capture probability)

  4. Total catch

  5. Total fish biomass

  6. Estimated fish biomass

  7. Average fish biomass

  8. Average fish length

  9. Condition factor

  10. Removal pattern during sampling

Metrics are included for (a) all species combined, (b) by individual species, and (c) by study site.
